We’ve been looking around to find some more duct tape inspiration and we found these rings we’d like to make soon. The blog’s author is a law student, and she LOVES duct tape. Valentine’s Day is next Tuesday, a day when most people love to get flowers as a sign of true love, but how awesome would it be to get a bouquet of flowers made out of duct tape?

We love to make purses because you just stretch out the tape in lines and then stick the sides together, so how different is it when it comes to making a duct tape flower? Very. It’s quite fiddly, and you can get carried away with the number of layers you want to keep adding to the stem to make it “look just right.” Some of them don’t even look like real flowers, just circles and circles of pointed bits of plastic. At least, that’s what we thought until we saw this. There’s a video and a PDF and a step-by-step set of photos.

Some other flowers we really like are How Joyful’s flower with rounded petals, Lily Belle Boutique’s daisy, Metro Parents’ funky daisies and  Argentum’s lily.

So we made a duct tape tote. We’re still totally into the color-blocking fashion trend, which is why we made our recent clutch, but this time we decided to go bigger and bolder. We had a lot of tape, so we took three of those colors (black, white and dusty pink) and matched the color-blocking proportions of this outfit.

Our biggest question was how to make the handles. With a bag this size, we needed to make sure the handles were really strong and could hold something as heavy as books. We’ve found rivets to be really good way of hanging onto the tape, and they can add a great look to an already good-looking bag. Another option was to make short handles that stuck all the way into the depths of the bag. Then we couldn’t find our rivets and the long handle we made looked good.

We’re a bit persnickity about our sides matching up perfectly with the front and back, so we took a lot of extra time doing that.

Add some duct tape color to your Nikes.

Rather than talk about ourselves and our own duct tape ideas, we thought we’d give a shout out to a few duct tape lovers with great ideas and creations. Compared to a few years ago, it’s amazing how much more we can read and see online.

Take, for example, Ophur‘s space suit costumes. I can totally understand why they are wearing their duct tape shirts open like that — can you imagine the sweat if they were closed?

Color blocking is the latest fashion trend in the US. Basically, you put two colors together that normally wouldn’t go together, like bottle green and pale green, or three colors like black and gray and brown. It takes a bit of getting used to because most outfits really do look better when the colors match instead of clash, but we like how this clutch turned out. We stuck the handle on one side of the bag instead of the middle of the seam because it didn’t sit right the first time. When we taped up the sides, we made sure to match the colors as well, and we lined up the edges so as not to have too many different lines showing.

We think it would look really cute with this dress.

We made this cute duct tape clutch in about half an hour. It was really easy to do — we just made a sheet of red tape and folded silver tape over the ends, folded it into a purse shape, and taped the sides with silver tape.

Once it was made we piled a few books on top of it overnight so that the corners of the flap wouldn’t curl up. We rolled a tiny piece of duct tape and stuck the flap down with it. We’ll probably add a snap button onto it later, because that’s way more practical.

We love to look around online to find other cute creations, and we really loved Valerie’s clutch, with the yellow flower giving it its final fun look. We also liked bluebamboo’s weaving on this one (which you can buy for $16). Great work, girls, and keep inspiring us!
